Letter: Donna Amaral, an especially well qualified candidate for Westport BOH

To the editor:

Local politics and local elections in a town like Westport are routinely populated by citizens who are generous enough to offer their time to make a contribution to the running of the town.

Very often they don’t have any particular expertise in politics or specific skills or experience in the  area of concern managed by the position they are running for. Good will and life experience are often enough to get them started, and experience in their elected position, with time, hopefully molds them into an effective advocate for the town and its citizens.

Sometimes people run for positions with particular agendas to influence a course correction of a board or committee that they feel has not performed in a way that they agree with. Campaigns to “take the town back” very often serve to divide the town, not bring people together.

That is why I am so enthusiastic about supporting Donna Amaral for Board of Health. Here is a person with over 40 years of experience in the health field. She grew up in Westport and attended the local schools. She knows Westport and understands the challenges we face. She is a candidate with only one agenda … serve the town and its citizens. She brings knowledge, life experience in the health field, and leadership skills that will enable her to be an affective Board of Health member.

If you’d like to have a virtual face to face with Donna, check out this link: https://vimeo.com/398943735. It’s her video candidate’s statement and is very informative.

It is rare indeed that we get to cast a vote for someone so spectacularly qualified. I’m voting for Donna. I hope you’ll consider doing that too.
