A timely message — we all need to stand against aggression
To the editor,
Thank you, Mr. deMoore, for your letter to the editor in last week’s Sakonnet Times (October 15). I was not present for the experience of verbal aggression towards you that you described, but could have been as I visited Walker's last Sunday.
As a psychologist, I know that one response to such an attack is to freeze in the face of threat. However, we cannot afford to stay frozen. If we stay frozen, the safety of all of us is jeopardized. Your words will stay with me, and remind me to step up and respond the next time I am in the presence of such verbal aggression. As I have learned from the people of color with whom I work, my voice, as a white person, is needed.
