Leonard A. Moniz, 79, of Westport, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Southpointe Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Fall River.  He was the husband of Ruth M. (Pires) Moniz.

Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late Manuel and Jesse (Albert) Moniz.  A graduate of Boston University with a degree in music, he loved traveling to Tanglewood, the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra each year.

Prior to retirement, he was a computer programmer and analyst and was the owner of L.A. Moniz Associates for more than 30 years.

Mr. Moniz was a member and past master of the Narragansett Masonic Lodge.  He was a HAM radio operator; his most memorable contact was with the astronauts when they passed over this area.  All was taken away when he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and his precious memories were swept away.

Along with his family and friends, he leaves his beloved cats: Blackberry, Archie, Hershey, Pandora, Mama Mia and Sundance.

Private services under the direction of the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport, will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Westport Council on Aging, 75 Reed Rd., Westport, MA 02790, Habitat for Cats, P.O. Box 79571, Dartmouth, MA 02747 or Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
