Helen M. (Phillips) Whipple, 90, of Tiverton, formerly of Westport, passed away on Monday, Sept. 5, 2022, at St. Anne's Hospital. She was the wife of the late William D. Whipple.
Mrs. Whipple was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., daughter of the late Joseph E. and Bertha (Harker) Phillips, and had resided in Westport for most of her life.
She graduated from Florida State University, after which her adventurous spirit brought her north to Boston University Graduate School, where she met her husband of 50 years. They moved to Westport in the mid-1960s, where they started a business and their family. She had worked as secretary to the superintendent of Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School, Fall River. Mrs. Whipple was a longtime member of the Westport Point United Methodist Church, serving as organist and choir director for 40 years, and playing for countless weddings and special gatherings.
Survivors include her two sons, Bradford Whipple and his wife Emlyn, and Eric Whipple and his wife Melanie, all of Rhode Island; her brother, Paul Phillips of South Carolina; her sister, Nancy Burton of Connecticut; four grandchildren, Alivia, Violette, Davis and Kaya; along with many nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Joe Phillips, Glenn Phillips and Janice Hagy.
Services were held under the direction of the Potter Funeral Home, Westport.
