The Westport Cultural Council has announced the winners of financial grants to organizations which it feels most strongly promote community oriented arts, humanities and science, and will support cultural activities in the Westport community

Helen E. Ellis (1889 – 1978) was a beloved artist and educator and writer who lived in Westport for more than half of a century. A talented sculptor and wood carver, Miss Ellis had a lifelong interest in the arts, culture and creativity. Her generous gift of a trust has allowed the WCC to provide cultural grants for 25 years.

Listed below are the organizations receiving 2019 grants and the amounts granted to each, totaling over $33,296.

• Children’s Authors, $3,000

• Summer WCC Film Series, $2,600

• Westport Art Group, $ 825

• Westport Free Public Library, $550

• Westport Community Schools, $2,272

• Greater Tiverton Chorus, $1,925

• Handy House Artisan Fair, $1,500

• The Art Drive, $2,000

• Artist in Residence, Macomber School, $4,000

• Costumes: Jr. /Sr. High Musical, $4,000

• Westport Elementary School, RI Philharmonic, $1,000

• Town Recreation Dept., $2,274

• WRWA River Center, $1,650

• Westport Land Conservation Trust, $3,700
