The Westport field hockey team won the Mayflower Comprehensive Division championship after handing a 9-0 beat down to Southeastern in a D-4 league game on Friday afternoon. The Lady Wildcats ended their season with a record of 14-3-1 and are ranked 14th with playoff brackets due out this week. Junior forward Isabella Babb scored 2 goals to lead Westport in the onslaught. Juniors, Makayla Grace, Maddie Melnyk, Kylie Decambra, Kaylin Pacheco and sophomore Sophia Rego also scored and freshman Ava Carr and sophomore Hailey Koster each scored their first career goals.
Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Brianna Soares made 2 saves to record her 10th shut out of the season.
Juggernaut Wildcats dominate Stang 5-1
On the soccer field, Tiago Rodrigues scored two goals as the juggernaut Westport soccer team dominated Bishop Stang 5-1 in a non-league game, after celebrating their senior day on Friday afternoon. The 14-0-2 Wildcats are sitting sixth in the power rankings with two games left to play in the season.
Austin Raposo, Carter Couto and Preston Carvalho also scored for Westport. Carvalho and Landen Novo each assisted on tallies. Defensively, Garrett Skov and the back wall kept shots to a minimum, while Wildcats’ goalkeeper Elijah McGonigle made 6 saves during the blow out. Before the game, Head coach Chris Parker introduced the seniors, who gave flowers to their parents before taking pictures.
Girls' soccer beats Diman 4-1
The Westport girls' soccer team beat Diman 4-1 in a home game on Saturday to improve their record to 8-7-1. They are ranked 50th in Division 4 with two games to play.
Eighth graders Lily Cipollini and Sofia Babb each scored to give Westport an early 2-0 lead. Lily Veracka later scored two goals to make it 4-1. Cipollini, Veracka, Alex Neronha, Jacki Jusseaume and Julia Raposo all tallied assists during the game.
Volleyball team falls to Calvary Chapel 3-0
The girls' volleyball team fell 3-0 to Calvary Chapel in a non-league game on Friday. The loss drops Westport to 9-11. They are ranked 24th in D-4.
