Meet the candidates
Two local organizations will hold a 'Meet The Candidates Night' in early March.
The forum, sponsored by Westport Business to Business and BayCoast Bank, will be held Wednesday, March 8 at at the new Westport Middle High School on Old County Road. It starts at 7 p.m.
All candidates running for elected office and on the April 11 town election ballot will have the opportunity to address town residents and tell voters why they would like their support and vote.
After all candidates address the audience, the audience will have the opportunity to ask questions.
Once the town election ballot is finalized, if there are questions also placed on the ballot, then each question will be address. The moderator will give a presenter supporting the question an opportunity to speak and a presenter opposed to the question and opportunity to speak. The audience then will be given the opportunity to ask questions or make statements regarding the questions.
In addition to the March 8 forum, plans are being finalized for an additional informational night later in March for the Westport voters to address the disposition of the former Westport High School and a potential budget override question which could be schedule for the Annual Town Meeting in May. The override question, if successful at the May Town Meeting, will then go to the voter in a ballot question at a later date.
