Owen Boudria scored 40 points as the Westport basketball team beat Southeastern RVT 71-69 in a non-league home game on Friday night. The win improved the Wildcats record to 11-6 with a power ranking of 11 in Division 5.
Westport opened up on the Hawks in the first quarter and scored 27 points, while holding Southeastern to just 9. Boudria, a senior guard, was unstoppable as he scored, using his mid-range pop-up jump shot, at will. The athletic senior made steals, grabbed rebounds and scored 20 first half points. He received help from his brother Cole, a sophomore, who scored 11 of his 17 points in the first half with four 3-pointers. Alex Krynicki who scored 7 points and Max Gallant, Dane Leary and Kingston Cordeiro who each chipped in with a basket.
Westport sat Krynicki and other starters in the second quarter as the Hawks battled back to cut the lead to 37-27 at halftime.
The Wildcats jumped on the Hawks in the third quarter and scored 24 points as they cruised to their fourth win in five games.
Westport has three more regular season games left before the tournament begins the final week of February.
Girls fall to Wareham 40-39
Skylar Rezendes scored 16 points as the girls basketball team fell to Wareham 40-39 in a league away game on Friday afternoon.
The loss drops the Wildcats record to 11-5 with a power ranking of 18 in Division 5.
Rezendes also pulled down 11 rebounds, made 2 steals and dished out 5 assists as Westport ran off to an early 25-22 lead after the first half. Jenna Egbe scored 8 points, Julia George netted 7, Zoey Sylvain scored 5, and Tess Silvia added 3 points.
Westport scored ten in the third quarter to take a 35-28 lead after three quarters.
Then the Wildcats ran out of gas. Rezendes scored the only basket in the fourth quarter as Wareham mounted a comeback behind a pair of 3-pointers and 6 for 6 shooting from the foul line.
The girls hit the road to play Blue Hills, Bishop Stang and Randolph before coming home to play their final regular season game on Thursday Feb. 20 at 5 p.m.
