Owen Boudria scored 23 points as the Wildcats came back to beat West Bridgewater 48-45 in their first league game of the season in a packed gymnasium on Friday night. Westport improved their record to 6-3. Boudria scored 9 points with a 3-pointer in the first half and 14 more in the second half as the Wildcats came back from a ten point deficit in the second quarter. West Bridgewater guard Tom Perna scored 10 first half points as they took a 26-20 halftime lead. Perna drained six 3-pointers and finished with 22 points.

Wildcats head coach Scot Boudria applied complex defenses to slow down West Bridgewater’s fast start. Westport senior guard Hunter Brodeur, who had a difficult time getting into a rhythm with his outside shooting, came up huge defensively, making steals and scoring on fast breaks as he chipped in with 11 points. Ben Boudria, Cam Leary, Coltrane McGonigle and Chris Duarte all contributed defensively.

“They haven’t faced a defense like ours,” said Cam Leary, a senior co-captain. “We came out strong and shot well in the second half.”

After the break, Westport outscored West Bridgewater 18-8 in the third quarter. Owen Boudria caught fire and scored 10 points in the quarter. Brodeur netted 4 and Ben Boudria and Leary each scored 2 points. Leary finished with 7 points and sank a huge 3-pointer in the fourth quarter. Ben Boudria scored 5 points and Duarte netted 2 points.

Next up: The Wildcats play three games this week as they host Atlantis Charter School on Monday at 5:30 p.m., travel to Holbrook on Wednesday at 5 p.m. and host Avon on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
