William “Billy” Briand passed away on March 28, 2021 at Fatima Hospital in North Providence. He was predeceased by his parents, William A. Briand and Mary (DePoint) Briand.

Billy was a very friendly, good-natured individual who endeared himself to many people from different walks of life. He was a good athlete who excelled in softball, winning a number of batting titles and playing into his fifties. He was an avid sports fan who wouldn’t miss a Patriots’ or Boston Bruins’ game. However, he was first and foremost a die-hard New York Yankees fan.

Billy also loved music as evidenced by his extensive record and CD collection. He also enjoyed music festivals and concerts.

Most notable was seeing the Beatles at Shea Stadium in 1966 and attending the Woodstock Music and Art Fair in 1969.

Billy lived most of his life in downtown Warren and was dubbed by many as the “unofficial mayor of Warren.” He was known for frequenting many local businesses and conversing with people he’d meet along the way. His affable personality and great sense of humor always left people smiling or laughing. He was a unique individual who will be missed.

The last number of years Billy enjoyed reading on his favorite bench at Warren Beach. In his memory a new bench will be installed on Water Street across from the beach. It will be dedicated to him through the Warren Memorial Bench Program.
