Warren's Bakeshop opens new upper floor expansion

The Bakeshop, located at 277 Water St. in Warren, recently announced an expansion of the business to include the second story of its home in the historic Carriage Shop / Garner’s Paint Shop (c.1790).

The Bakeshop is the sister property to the acclaimed Bywater restaurant, opened by Katie Dickson in the summer of 2015. During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when Bywater was reduced to takeout-only, Dickson and her team unveiled The Bakeshop, a window-service café pop-up offering sourdough breads, European-style pastries, artisanal roasted coffees, and espresso beverages.

The Bakeshop concept proved successful and in 2023, found a permanent home just across the street from Bywater. In a bright, warm space designed by Bridge Hall Design and built by Adam Benoit, a growing menu of sweet and savory pastries, simple brunch and lunch items, and naturally leavened breads are complemented by Bolt coffee and espresso drinks, mocktails, and iced tea. Guests can also shop a curated offering of housewares, books, and grocery items.

The restored and reimagined second story, designed and built by Benoit, features additional family-friendly seating and beautiful water views from a cozy deck nestled among the trees. The furniture is from O&G Studio, handcrafted locally in Warren, and an art collection from local designer, shopkeeper, and educator, Nick Haus, adorns the walls.

The Bakeshop is open Thursdays through Mondays, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The new space is available for private, after-hours events and complimentary Wi-Fi is available.

About The Bakeshop
The Bakeshop began in 2020 as a window-service café pop-up offering sourdough breads, European-style pastries, artisanal roasted coffees, and espresso beverages. Filling a need in the historic waterfront district on the East Bay, owner Katie Dickson endeavored to find it a permanent home. Just across the street from her restaurant, Bywater, stood the Old Carriage Shop/Gardner’s Paint Shop (circa 1790), which became The Bakeshop’s permanent home in 2023.

In a bright, warm space, a growing menu of sweet and savory pastries, simple brunch and lunch items, and naturally leavened breads are complemented by Bolt coffee and espresso drinks, mocktails, and iced tea. Guests can also shop a curated offering of housewares, books, and grocery items.

Recognizing the negative impact restaurants can have on the environment, Dickson is committed to sourcing almost exclusively from local and independent purveyors, including wine and beverage as much as possible. For more information, visit www.instagram.com/bakeshopwarren.
