A Warren police officer and two Bristol residents were injured Friday, Aug. 23 when their SUVs collided on Market Street, adjacent to Walmsley Marine.

Warren police said Officer Mason Hinken was attempting to stop a car for a moving violation just after 5:30 p.m. when the accident occurred. Police said Officer Hinken's police SUV was headed north when it collided head-on or nearly head-on with a silver SUV being driven southbound by Edward Bernard, 72, of Bristol.

After the collision, Officer Hinken's SUV continued into the Walmsley Marine parking lot, striking a boat trailer. Officer Hinken, Mr. Bernard and his passenger, Sharon Bernard, 70, were all transported to Rhode Island Hospital with minor injuries, and Officer Hinken was released later that night.

The Rhode Island State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit responded and is handling the investigation.Warren police said nobody was charged in the accident.
