Warren police logs: Two face DUI charges

Monday, May 18

Police got a call about a small boat resting on a Bridge Street sidewalk. No word on how high the tide was that morning.

A Birchswamp Road resident reported finding damage to a gate.

A caller complained about a man loitering on Main Street just after noon. Turns out he was waiting for the bus.

A passer-by approached an officer to complain about seeing two men fishing off the Warren-Barrington bridge. 

A caller told police that a man was riding a motorcycle or motorized bicycle down the East Bay Bike Path, near Beach Street.

Michael J. Sylvia, 61, of 40 Arlington Ave., Apt. 6, was charged with driving under the influence of liquor and refusal to submit to a chemical test, after police pulled him over at Railroad Avenue and Joyce Street at 5:45 p.m.

A caller reported a possible domestic incident between a man and woman on Market Street. It turned out to be a mother disciplining her children.

A passerby told police just before 9:30 p.m. that there was a man stumbling into the road on Main Street. A neighbor called 911 soon after to report that the man was laying in the grass in front of his house; police called rescue crews who took the man to the hospital for possible alcohol intoxication.

Tuesday, May 19

A Paul Court woman called police and asked for assistance with her daughters, who were fighting.

A caller reported that two small children were left unattended in a car parked on Child Street.

Fire crews extinguished a mulch fire called in from Metacom Avenue at 1:38 p.m.

A Market Street resident called police after spotting a raccoon sleeping on a second floor deck. Officers contacted DEM; officials there said someone would come down.

A driver on Market Street reported a speeder. It was gone on police arrival.

A woman asked for a police escort as she gathered items of hers from a Warren Avenue residence.

Police dispersed a group of juveniles who were playing basketball and using “explicit” language on Main Street, just before 8 p.m.

A Croade Street woman complained that a neighbor damaged her fence.

A Main Street woman called police after getting into an altercation with her boyfriend. She said she was OK, but wanted advice from police and also to have him removed from the residence. Police dispersed the man.

Wednesday, May 20

Police got a call about a man on Kickemuit Road, who was allegedly shouting profanities at young children.

Police looked for but could not locate a possible drunk driver called in at Child Street and Metacom Avenue at 12:30 p.m.

Police were called to Main Street just after 1 p.m. for a disorderly child.

A Main Street woman complained that her ex opened her mail and claimed her for tax purposes.

A caller complained that someone tipped over a blue planter on Main Street.

A Davis Street resident complained about a neighbor’s loud music. Police used a decibel reader to measure the level; the volume came in below the town’s limit.

Fire crews extinguished a chimney fire called in on Arlington Avenue at 6:46 p.m.

Police dispersed several people from Burr’s Hill after getting a call about a large group of juveniles playing basketball and not wearing face masks.

Multiple juveniles were dispersed after police got a call about a large gathering on Homestead Avenue.

Multiple callers complained about fireworks on Cutler Street just before 8:15 p.m.

Thursday, May 21

A Sisson Street man requested transport to the hospital for alcohol intoxication/detox.

A caller told police a ladder fell from his truck a day earlier, and he could not locate it. Police told him they would call if it turned up.

Police restored the peace after getting a call about a man harassing state DOT workers on Market Street at 9 a.m.

A caller from Main Street said she received a complaint about a juvenile who had a knife. Police checked it out. After speaking to the child, they learned he’d found a razor blade but had handed it over to a parent.

A caller inquired about filing a damage report for his car, which he said was damaged by his ex-girlfriend in the summer of 2018.

A Metacom Avenue resident reported being harassed over Facebook.

Police told the owner of a car parked on Main Street for five days to move it.

A Main Street resident reported the theft of medication.

A passerby told police that employees of a Miller Street establishment were not wearing face masks while serving customers. Police responded and noted that all staff members were wearing masks; they were advised of the complaint.

Police dispersed a man after getting a call about a man and a woman arguing at Main Street and Sowamsett Avenue.

Friday, May 22

A Reservoir Avenue man reported possible fraud on his wife’s credit card account.

A caller from Child Street told police that two boys had just threatened his son.

A South Grove Avenue woman complained that someone smeared mud along the top of her front door.

Police got a call from Water Street about an intoxicated man refusing to leave an establishment. The caller said the man was acting unruly and was not wearing a face mask. Police dispersed him.

A Market Street woman complained that her ex slashed her tires the night before, and had also threatened to burn down her house.

The manager of a Water Street establishment told police that a man was making harassing phone calls to his employees. Police spoke to the man, who told them he would stop calling.

Luis I. Taveras, 37, of 53 Wheaton St., was charged with domestic violence/disorderly conduct, after a neighbor called to report a disturbance.

A caller complained about a cement truck speeding on Kickemuit Road.

Ryan Nieves, 18, of 648 Main St., was charged with vandalism and disorderly conduct, after a caller told police that there was a disgruntled man arguing with staff members.

Police dispersed several people from a large gathering called in on Kelly Street. Police noted that “everyone was abiding by social distancing” protocols.

Police dispersed a group of young basketball players from Burr’s Hill.

Multiple callers complained of fireworks on Cutler Street.

A Federal Street resident complained that two women were driving by her home repeatedly, taking photos and videos. 

Police told folks in a Hope Street home to quiet down; they’d received a complaint of a loud party.

Saturday, May 23

A caller complained about loud music coming from a Water Street apartment at 12:16 a.m. A similar call came in from Long Lane about 20 minutes later.

Peter H. Remington, 69, of 56 Warren Ave., third floor, was picked up on a warrant for domestic violence/criminal violation of a no contact order.

A Bay Road resident called to report seeing an injured fox.

A Kinnicutt Avenue resident reported receiving harassing/threatening text messages.

A Child Street man reported being threatened by an attorney. He was advised by officers on how to obtain a restraining order.

A Main Street woman reported spotting a skunk in her back yard.

Police were called to Everett and Mason streets to break up an altercation among juveniles.

Officers tracked down those involved and spoke to their counterparts in Bristol about the fight.

A fireworks complaint came in from Croade Street.

Rescue crews took a man to the hospital after he severed a finger cutting meat.

Sunday, May 24

A Child Street woman told police at 2:14 a.m. that a man was refusing to leave her home.

A man asked for a police escort while he retrieved items from a Child Street home.

A caller told police that her ex-wife locked her out of the house and left with her children. Police looked into it and discovered that the children were not legally hers; police advised her that it was a civil matter.

A caller reported people shouting at each other on Vernon Street. Police learned it was a parent/child argument.

A Croade Street woman complained that a woman was drilling without a permit. Police determined there was no issue; the neighbor was drilling on his own property.

A passerby flagged down an officer to report that there were people drinking alcohol along the bike path, near Railroad Avenue. Police caught up with them; rescue was called to evaluate one, and a friend said he would bring him home and watch him for the evening.

Ashley H. Bourgeois, 36, of Acushnet, Ma. was charged with driving under the influence of liquor and refusal to submit to chemical test, after she reportedly struck a parked car on Main Street at 7:39 p.m.

An Arlington Avenue man told police he received a threatening phone call from a stranger.

Benjamin Chauvin, 35, of Providence, was charged with driving under the influence of liquor and refusal to submit to a chemical test, after police received multiple calls about a collision between a sedan and motorcycle on Main Street at 9:28 p.m. 

A fireworks complaint came in from Long Lane just after 9:30 p.m.

Police were called to Paul Court for a report of a loud house party. They advised people there to quiet down.

An Arlington Avenue woman asked that police remove an unwanted woman from her home.
