Warren police logs: Three DUIs this past week

Monday, Sept. 16

Francisco Durwayne Smith, 36, of Dorchester, Ma., was arrested on a warrant out of Coventry after police pulled him over on Metacom Avenue at 9:51 a.m.

A person who heard loud banging and popping noises at Croade and Cutler streets just after 10 a.m. probably heard a car backfiring, police determined.

Police had a few words with skateboarders who had been reported going in and out of the road on Market Street just after 2:30 p.m.

Polcie dispersed several people who had been arguing outside a Child Street establishment over a car that had been towed.

Tuesday, Sept. 17

Derrick S. Jones, 27, of Attleboro, was charged with driving after the denial, suspension or revocation of his license, third or subsequent offense, after police pulled him over on Market Street at 1:37 a.m.

Police attempted to pull over a suspicious vehicle on Redmond Street at 6:25, but the driver took off and they were unable to locate it.

A caller told police that she was concerned that a local woman going to pick up her daughter from cheerleading practice was intoxicated. Police made arrangements with family members to have the girl picked up.

Wednesday, Sept. 19

Police looked for but could not find a reportedly aggressive driver called in from Metacom Avenue.

A “rooster complaint” came in from Sachem Street. No word on what the rooster’s complaint was.

A Market Street woman complained that someone took out a loan in her name.

A caller spotted a sick coyote on Coomer Avenue just after 4 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 19

An intoxicated Sisson Street man asked that a rescue take him to the hospital. He was transported to Miriam.

Edgar Torres, 21, of Providence, was arrested on a Rhode Island Superior Court warrant after he was spotted laying in the grass behind St. Thomas the Apostle Church on Metacom Avenue.

Police got a call about a car traveling at a high rate of speed south on Market Street. Police spotted the car, parked and unattended, nearby.

A visually impaired Evie Drive man called and asked for help locating his guide dog, which had run out of the house. The dog returned a short time later.

Friday, Sept. 20

Stephen Carter, 36, of 14 Kelly St., was charged with possession of narcotics after a stop on Kelly Street just after 12:30 a.m.

A Davis Street woman reported the theft of her credit card.

The owner of a Metacom Avenue establishment said juveniles had been urinating behind his business and throwing items around while inside the store.

A concerned caller told police that a RIPTA bus ran a red light and nearly struck a bicyclist on Main Street at about 5:45 p.m.

A UPS driver found a wallet and cell phone outside of a Child Street home, and called police.

Saturday, Sept. 21

Cristian J. Acuna, 18, of North Reading, Ma., was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, first offense, BAC .1 to .15, after police pulled him over at Arlington Avenue and Rosa Boulevard at 12:57 a.m.

Paula E. Burns, 54, of Barrington, was charged with driving under the influence of liquor or drugs, first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, after police pulled her over on Metacom Avenue at 1:01 a.m.

A woman reported finding a dead fox near Main Street and Almy Avenue.

A Napolean Street woman asked police to remove an unwanted man from her home. Officers arrived and complied.

A resident reported hearing gun shots near Bagy Wrinkle Cove. Police suspected it was likely fireworks.

Sunday, Sept. 22

Rui M. Vieira, 35, of Bristol, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, after police pulled him over at 12:36 a.m. at Vernon Street and Metacom Avenue.

A Detroit Avenue woman called police and asked that police take her to detox. She was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

A Child Street woman called regarding her ex, who she said was harassing her.
