Warren police logs: Several DUIs over Fourth of July weekend

Monday, July 1

A Davis Street resident reported that a person against whom a court order had been filed reached out via e-mail, in violation of that order.

Edward V. Verna, 24, of Bristol, was charged with driving after the denial, suspension or revocation of his license, first offense, after he was pulled over just after 10 a.m. at the intersection of Main and Coomer.

A caller reported a car driving aggressively back and forth on Mason Street.

A Metacom Avenue man came in to report losing his bike.

Police checked out a burglar alarm that tripped at a Main Street home, but discovered that a dog accidentally set it off.

A caller complained about doing tricks on their bikes along Railroad Avenue.

Robert R. Stephenson, 44, of Barrington, was charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and vandalism/malicious injury to property, after police were called to Market Street at 6:33 p.m. for a report of an assault.

A woman reported the theft of a bike from Beach Street.

Callers complained about fireworks at Child Street, Parker Street, Wood Street, Federal Street and Seymour Street.

A caller complained about a man and woman arguing on Rollingwood Court.

Tuesday, July 2

John H. Lahoud Jr., 48, of 289 Main St., Apt. 1F, was charged with domestic simple assault/battery and domestic disorderly conduct, after his sister called police at 2:06 a.m. to report that he was intoxicated and out of control.

Several callers on Buffalo Avenue reported at approximately 2:20 a.m. that there was a woman walking up and down the street screaming, and that there was a black truck circling the neighborhood. Police found nothing amiss.

A Libby Lane resident reported the theft of medication.

The driver of a “suspicious” vehicle reported circling the Hugh Cole School on Asylum Road was just looking for a place to park, police discovered.

A Martin Street resident reported receiving phone/text threats.

A Taddy Avenue resident reported that shrubbery was cut down by a neighbor. No word on whether  a knight who said “Ni!” was involved.

A Martin Street resident reported the theft of medication.

Police got a call about an aggressive driver on Main and Campbell streets.

A Union Street man reported that a person babysitting his dog refused to return either the dog, nor his clothes.

Wednesday, July 3

An employee of a group home on Main Street reported that a juvenile who had earlier gone missing had returned.

A Fairview Avenue woman called to report that her above ground pool had just collapsed, and there was a burning odor inside her house. Crews reported that they cut the breaker to the pool filter; the smell actually was coming from a fire pit several houses down.

An Oak Street man called to report the possible theft of his truck.

A caller from Libby Lane reported an injured rabbit.

The animal control officer was able to free an animal stuck in a fence on Metacom Avenue.  No word on the species.

A caller complained that cars had been driving too fast along Campbell and Water streets.

A resident made restitution after an employee at a Child Street business reported that the person had left without paying for a propane refill.

A passerby reported that two young girls were making fun of a deaf man on Market Street.

A Child Street woman told police someone may have tried to gain entry into her home while she was away. She noted that nothing was missing.

Fireworks complaints came in from Martin Street, Wood Street, Kelly Street, Vernon Street and throughout the Touisset area and Laurel Park.

A woman who found a set of keys on a Water Street bench gave them to police.

Thursday, July 4

A Main Street woman complained about a noisy group talking in front of her home just after 12:30 a.m.

Jennifer L. Briggs, 33, of Plainville, Ma., was charged with driving after the denial, suspension or revocation of her license, first offense, after she was pulled over on Market Street at 2:51 a.m.

Cows were spotted wandering around Birchswamp Road around 7 a.m.

Officers utilized Narcan to treat a possible overdose patient on Main Street just before 6 p.m.

Multiple fireworks calls came in from Wood Street, Main Street and in other locales around his home. An Arlington Avenue man complained that some of the spent shells were landing on his home, and a Bowen Street resident reported that revelers were shooting fireworks at each other.

Friday, July 5

Cory Steffens, 32, of West Warwick, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, after police pulled him over on Arlington Avenue at 1:40 a.m.

Police assisted a motorist whose car had become stuck in a Schoolhouse Road ditch.

A possible structure fire was reported on Patterson Avenue. Turns out it might have been from a smoky grill.

Police dispersed a man who was found sleeping outside of a home occupied by a woman who had filed a restraining order against him.

Saturday, July 6

An employee at a Main Street group home reported that a juvenile who had previously been reported AWOL had returned.

Kevin W. Soscia, 63, of 28 Child St., Apt. 6, was charged with driving after the denial, suspension or revocation of his license, third or subsequent offense, after police pulled him over on Child Street at 4:49 p.m.

A Metacom Avenue woman reported receiving threatening text messages.

Sunday, July 7

A caller complained about a loud pool party on Vernon Street.

Monday, July 8

Nicole E. Rodriques, 25, of Bristol, was charged with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, first offense, and refusal to submit to a chemical test, after police pulled her over on Metacom Avenue at 2:54 a.m.

A caller reported a person sleeping in a car in a Metacom Avenue parking lot.
