The Warren Land Conservation Trust has scheduled its first Day Walk of 2022 on New Year’s Day at the Haile Farm Preserve, as well as its annual meeting on Jan. 11. Members of the public are invited to attend along with members of the Trust. See details below.
First Day Walk - Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Haile Farm Preserve (New Industrial Way), Warren
Members of the Trust and the public are invited to the first annual First Day Walk at Haile Farm Preserve. The group walk will take you through the variety of trails and terrains of Haile Farm, a former salt water farm with a 300-year history that is now lovingly stewarded by WLCT and open for the community to enjoy. Parking is available at the trailhead.
Please wear weather-appropriate clothing including sturdy, waterproof boots. Bring binoculars if you have them. The wintering birds are plentiful in the woodlands, meadow and marsh.
More information about Haile Farm and other protected properties is available at the Trust’s website and on Facebook.
Annual meeting – Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022 at 7:00 p.m.
(Note: This event will be online rather than in-person)
The Trust is inviting members and friends to its Annual Meeting. Due to uncertainty regarding Covid-19, the meeting has been changed from being in-person to online. A Zoom link will be forwarded to members ahead of time. Non-members who would like to attend may email warrenlctri@gmail.com to receive an invitation and link.
Keynote speaker will be the new Executive Director of the Rhode Island Land Trust Council (RILTC), Kate Sayles. Kate was selected to lead RILTC in July 2021 after over 10 years as the Forestry and Agriculture Program Manager for the non-profit Northern RI Conservation District. She also worked for the RI Tree Council and USDA after receiving her BS degree in Wildlife and Conservation Biology from URI. Kate will be speaking on the theme “New Year, New Directions,” and will be discussing the RILTC’s strategic vision for the future.
In addition to the keynote presentation, the Trust will hold a brief business meeting to elect new Board members and officers, vote on proposed amendments to the by-laws, and present the Trust’s annual Distinguished Service Award. The event will provide an opportunity to meet the new members of the leadership team, learn about ideas the Board has been discussing for the coming year, as well as celebrate some of the accomplishments from the past year.
