Ruggiero: My experience will help bring the change we need

Posted

As your State Representative I see a need to communicate respectfully with other state leaders to focus on serious issues that affect our constituents. Issues like affordable housing for our seniors, and our middle and lower income wage earners. Our seniors deserve and have earned the right to housing they can afford so they may enjoy their golden years.

I see a runaway budget system that shows no end in sight. We must begin to reduce spending, while still providing necessary services, and not place a financial burden on generations to come. Government must make better choices when it comes to spending. All too often politicians like to spend other people’s money, but there is not a bottomless pit. And the budget crisis that we see on both State and Federal levels are perfect examples of our representatives not making wise, sound financial decisions. An example of these decisions is when special interest legislation is passed into law that only benefits small groups, and ignores the majority of constituents, while passing the financial burden onto the majority of taxpayers.

As your next Representative I will use my many years of experience in government, along with my experience as a teacher to work with my colleagues, the Administration, and the public to improve our State educational system. Every child deserves a quality education and the State and local governments must ensure funding is provided to accomplish this worthwhile goal.

State government must also try to work to provide affordable, quality health care for all its residents. Whether that can be accomplished is impossible to answer today, but I can assure you that I will continually work toward trying to achieve affordable, quality health care for all.

The constituents I have spoken with say they want representation that is focused on community issues. They want roads improved, schools to provide quality education to their students, affordable housing for seniors, affordable health care for all, and the possibility the State of RI will exempt Social Security pensions from taxes. And above all they want honest leadership.

I can assure you that as your State Representative I will represent the citizens of Bristol and Warren with the same, honesty, integrity and transparency I had during my 18 years on the Town Council. That experience, along with my educational background and my years of community services will allow me to make the kinds of decisions on the State level that will positively affect our communities. I will work diligently on your behalf and will always be there when you need me.
