Come July, beer lovers will be able to sit out on a deck along the Warren River, watch the sun go down and enjoy the only pint brewed in town.

The Guild Warren, LLC last week received a host of needed approvals from the Warren Town Council, paving the way for a small brewery, brewpub and restaurant in an old brick warehouse along the south side of the American Tourister development. The plan is to open the 140-seat restaurant and small batch brewery feet from the water, with a small deck along the river. All that is needed now is to obtain a special use permit, which the firm will seek at this week’s Zoning Board of Review meeting.

“We’re very excited,” said Jeremy Duffy, a managing partner with The Brewers Guild LLC, which runs a large brewery and restaurant in Pawtucket. “It’s a great location.”

Town officials had long courted The Guild, even traveling to Pawtucket to check out the firm’s operation, and Tourister officials had long sought an “anchor” restaurant for the busy mill complex.  Mr. Duffy said he believes the location is perfect, and refers to Guild’s plan as “creating neighborhoods,” with traditional dining tables interspersed with long German-style tables where large groups of friends can gather.

“It will be a fun atmosphere.”

Several varieties of beer will be brewed, from light lagers all the way up to double IPAs and stouts and other dark beers. Food will include “modern day brewpub” items, he said. “A lot of great handheld items, local sourced. And salads and other healthy” things.

Since it will hold a state brewpub license, The Guild Warren will be able to sell and fill “growlers,” small glass bottles, for sale and consumption on and off the premises.

Mr. Duffy said that though the brewpub also sought (and obtained) an entertainment license, there are no plans at the moment for live entertainment. When it comes to that, he said, it will likely be similar to the small acoustic guitar acts that are offered at the Pawtucket location. He said the restaurant will likely employ up to 20 full and part-time workers. Construction will likely start next month,  after all needed permits are in place.
