Robert K. “Bob” Hawkinson Jr., P.E., age 89, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019 in Hope Hospice & Palliative Care of Rhode Island, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Helen Prendergast Hawkinson to whom he was married for 62 years.

Born in New York City, NY, the son of the late Robert K. Sr. and Juliette Cabaud Hawkinson, he was a long-time resident of both Providence and Warren, RI.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Robert K. Hawkinson III, P.E. and US Navy veteran; his daughter Christine Hawkinson and grandson, Christopher Overton.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main St., Warren followed by burial in St. Mary of the Bay Cemetery. For full obituary and service information please visit, www.wilbur-romano.com.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
