The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA) is working with a Warren woman to find homes for some of the 30 cats she had taken in at her South Cornell Avenue home.
RISPCA officials received an anonymous complaint last Friday, June 26 that the unnamed woman had as many of 75 cats in her home. Warren police were also alerted, and were in touch with agency officials.
Earl Newman, an RISPCA investigator, went to the home later that day and counted about 30 cats. He said they all appeared to be in good health, and he doesn’t believe criminal charges are warranted in this case.
“They all were being well taken care of and the house was clean,” he said. “There was no (criminal) issue. A lot of times, people have good intentions (but) it just gets ahead of them.”
Mr. Newman returned to the home Saturday and spoke to the woman again on Monday. He said RISPCA officials are working with her to try to relocate some of her cats to bring the number down to something more manageable.
