Barrington Police responded to the Warren River Bridge on Saturday night, Aug. 31, at about 9 p.m., after someone called 911 to report an assault at the bridge.
Police said a Warren man who was the alleged victim told police he was fishing from the bridge when he was approached by an unknown male who assaulted him. The alleged victim told police the assailant knocked him to the ground and then threw his cell phone in the river.
Police said the suspect was not on the bridge.
Police spotted a group of fishermen a short distance away and spoke to them. The fishermen said they saw a commotion on the bridge that appeared to be a fight.
Police said the alleged victim appeared to be intoxicated. Police also said the alleged victim had not stopped by the station to fill out a statement, as of Sept. 2.
