Patricia Bettencourt, Warren

Patricia A. (Alves) Bettencourt, of Warren, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019 at St. Elizabeth Manor in Bristol. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur Bettencourt. Pat and Arthur enjoyed a fulfilling 38 years together.

Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late August R. Alves Jr. and Jacqueline C. (Blouin) Medeiros, she was a longtime resident of Warren, Bristol and East Providence.

Mrs. Bettencourt worked as an Accounting Reconciliation Coordinator for Samsonite before retiring. She also worked for 18 years at the former American Universal Insurance Company. She enjoyed other positions in Accounts Payable and as a Full Charge Bookkeeper.

Pat was a loving and caring person who was devoted to her family, including her extended family.

She leaves her sisters, Linda Mae Moniz and husband Frank, of Warren, Donna Lee Standley and her husband Steve, of Warren; her brother, August R. Alves II and wife Deborah of Bristol; and nieces, Dawne Marie (Michael) Cayer, Kara Beth (Eric) Terra, Nephews, Michael August Alves, Francis Anthony (Mercedes) Moniz, Joshua Paul Landskroner.

Her funeral will be held at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, from Smith Funeral and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main St., Warren. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 550 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours Monday from 8:30 to 9:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Mary of the Bay Parish, 645 Main Street, Warren, RI, 02885 would be appreciated.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
