Heather Ferreira is the new kid on the block at the Warren Senior Center, so to speak, and already, the 46-year-old Fall River resident has taken her exercise class by storm. She is very demonstrative in her exercise approach and all those in the class seem to love it.
“We really enjoy this class and the accompanying music is wonderful,” said Warren resident Jackie Taylor. “She gives us a great workout for the entire 45 minutes. I can’t say enough good things about her.”
Added Bunny Enos, “I restarted exercising in December, and Heather has been a great credit to this program. She’s very well organized.”
Linda Dionne has been attending the Senior Center exercise class for a number of years and agrees that Heather is a wonderful, no-nonsense instructor.
“She’s very good,” said Linda. “I get a lot out of this class, which is a great asset to the town.”
Nancy Grandgeorge has been exercising for the past four years and is grateful to have an instructor like Heather every Thursday morning.
“I love it,” she said. “We all feel the same way.”
Since arriving as the new Thursday instructor, Becky Travers of Warren makes it perfectly clear that Heather is always on time for instruction.
“She’s on time all the time,” said Becky. “We’re so happy to have her here.”
Heather Ferreira is all business when she enters the Senior Center.
“I've been teaching three years, and I am certified in Buti yoga, barre and a weight training class,” she noted. “I have been at the Senior Center a few weeks now. It has easily turned into one of my favorite classes to teach. I love everyone’s energy and how much they have been open to trying. Every week, the class has grown, and they seem to really enjoy it. We do weights every week and also do some standing exercises. I offer modifications so anyone who can't do the full movement still has an option to participate.”
She added, “I usually offer some moves that they can relate to everyday, such as reach for the plates, close the curtains etc., all relatable things. I try to keep class fun, enjoyable (as much as you can a workout) and friendly. The music usually ranges so it's music everyone knows and enjoys.
I always say ‘you never regret a workout,’ and I hope they feel the same.”
