Administration recognizes Huskies' standouts in sports, classrooms

Members of Mt. Hope High School’s Academic All-Star team for 2024 were honored in between games of the boys' and girls' basketball doubleheader hosted by the Huskies Monday night, Jan. 6.

To be selected, Academic All-Stars must maintain a certain cumulative grade point average and may only represent one sport per given year.

In remarks prepared for the evening, Bristol Warren Regional School District Athletic Director Christy Belisle wrote,
"This is a prestigious honor only bestowed upon those student-athletes who have the highest yearly GPA on their respective team at Mt. Hope High School."

She continued, "This distinguished award sets you apart from your peers, as this elite group is representative of our most driven and focused student-athletes from the 2023-2024 school year. On behalf of the athletics office and high school administration we are extremely proud of your dedication to academics, and your hard work on our fields, courts, mats and pool."

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
