PORTSMOUTH — A Warren was charged with multiple offenses on Wednesday, Jan. 13, after his vehicle was pulled over for speeding around 5:15 p.m. in the parking lot of West Main Pizza on West Main Road.
The driver, James M. Martel, 58, of 2 Kathleen Drive, displayed signs of intoxication and was “extremely confrontational,” according to police.
After failing a field sobriety test, he was placed under arrest but actively resisted, kicking an officer while being secured in a cruiser, police said. He was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense), resisting arrest and simple assault.

Tuesday, Jan. 12
Philip V. Duckett III, 27, of 470 Sandy Point Ave., was charged with driving while intoxicated (second offense) after the motorcycle he was operating crashed in the area of East Main Road and Sandy Point Avenue around 7:50 p.m. Mr. Duckett, who was not injured in the accident, was also cited for driving without an active license (third offense) and refusing to submit to a chemical test, police said.
Wednesday, Jan. 13
Shawn K. Davis, 34, of 75 Division Road, West Greenwich, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) and driving without an active license after being stopped for speeding and a lane roadway violation on West Main Road at Raytheon around 2:45 a.m.
Sunday, Jan. 17
Mia N. Oliveira, 18, of 38 Belvedere Drive, Bristol, was charged with driving while intoxicated and underage possession of alcohol, both first offenses, after being pulled over for speeding on Stringham Road at Cimmaron Drive around 1:40 a.m.
Kathleen Bestoso, 21, of 3 Morgan St., Newport, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) after being pulled over for speeding and committing roadway violations on Route 24 North at Sprague Street around 2:20 a.m. She was also cited for refusing a chemical test, according to police.
Devin A. Price, 27, of 44 Volturno St., North Providence, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and driving while intoxicated (first offense) after being stopped for multiple moving violations on Route 24 shortly before 8 p.m. Inside his car, police observed a small plastic bag that contained a white powdery substance which was recognized to be cocaine, according to police. Mr. Price was also cited for refusing a chemical test, police said.
Stephen P. Coleman, 50, of 19 Mello Terrace, was charged with domestic assault. Police responded to his home around 11:15 p.m. after getting a request to conduct a wellbeing check on a 20-year-old local woman, police said. During their investigation it was determined that Mr. Coleman had assaulted the woman and was the predominate aggressor, according to police.
