PORTSMOUTH — A Warren was charged with multiple offenses on Wednesday, Jan. 13, after his vehicle was pulled over for speeding around 5:15 p.m. in the parking lot of West Main Pizza on West Main Road.

The driver, James M. Martel, 58, of 2 Kathleen Drive, displayed signs of intoxication and was “extremely confrontational,” according to police.

After failing a field sobriety test, he was placed under arrest but actively resisted, kicking an officer while being secured in a cruiser, police said. He was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense), resisting arrest and simple assault.

Here are some other recent highlights from the Portsmouth Police report:

Kathleen Bestoso, 21, of 3 Morgan St., Newport, was charged with driving while intoxicated (first offense) after being pulled over for speeding and committing roadway violations on Route 24 North at Sprague Street around 2:20 a.m. She was also cited for refusing a chemical test, according to police.

Devin A. Price, 27, of 44 Volturno St., North Providence, was charged with possession of a controlled substance and driving while intoxicated (first offense) after being stopped for multiple moving violations on Route 24 shortly before 8 p.m. Inside his car, police observed a small plastic bag that contained a white powdery substance which was recognized to be cocaine, according to police. Mr. Price was also cited for refusing a chemical test, police said.

Stephen P. Coleman, 50, of 19 Mello Terrace, was charged with domestic assault. Police responded to his home around 11:15 p.m. after getting a request to conduct a wellbeing check on a 20-year-old local woman, police said.
