Lt. Christopher J. Jannitto, 59, of Warren died Friday, Oct. 1, at Hope Hospice Center after a brief battle with occupational cancer. Born in Cranston, he was a son of the late Frederick and Joan (Rene) Jannitto. He was the beloved husband of Megan Rossi-Jannitto. Chris lived most of his life in Warren but also lived in Lincoln and Bristol.
Chris was a member of the Providence Fire Department for 30 years. Before his death he was a Lieutenant on Engine 13. He had also belonged to Engines 8, 2 and 12 as well as the Special Hazards. His memberships included Providence Fire Fighters IAFF Local 799, where he served as an Executive Board Member for 10 years; Rhode Island Professional Firefighters Pipes and Drums; International Association of Fire Fighters and the Warren Rod and Gun Club.
Chris played hockey on the Providence Fire Department’s team for several years. When he wasn’t saving lives, “Trigger” as he was known to his friends, enjoyed kayaking and paddleboarding on the Kickemuit River and spending time with his friends and family. He was an avid New York Yankees fan. His engaging personality, quick wit, and infectious smile will never be forgotten by those who were lucky enough to know him.
Besides his wife, he leaves behind his two daughters whom he adored, Niki and Samantha Jannitto; his brother, Joseph F. Jannitto, a Battalion Chief also serving the Providence Fire Department and his wife Pamela; his niece, Alicia Jannitto, and his nephew, Micheal Jannitto, all of Bristol. He was also a brother of the late Sgt. Michael J. Jannitto.
Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren where family will receive friends, Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, from 4 5o 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, Oct. 11, in St Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main St., Warren at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St Mary of the Bay Cemetery.
