The Mt. Hope High School softball squad earned its first Division II win of the 2025 season, and it was a resounding one in that as the Huskies beat host Woonsocket, 11-1, Wednesday, April 23.

Ava Waddell got the locals going with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning. Mt. Hope then blew the game open with five runs in the third. The first run scored on a Villa Novans' error. Callie DaPonte singled to plate one run. Emily Moran drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring one run. Liliana Bowden drew a walk with the bases full to bring another around. Jessica Maciel grounded out, scoring the fifth tally.

Madison Andrews earned the win in the circle for the Huskies. She allowed, four hits in six innings, striking out four and walking one. The Woonsocket run was unearned.

Sofia Haberman had three hits and stole two bases. Waddell finished with two runs batted in. She and DaPonte had two hits. Anna VanAmberg and Moran had two walks each.

"The girls are starting to believe in themselves," said MHHS head coach Lis Braun. "Ava Waddell’s bat has come to life. She’s leading the way every game. Maddie is pitching with confidence and determination. She’s getting better every game. The win feels good. It was a total team effort. They are playing like a team, coming together as a group."

Girls' lacrosse
The MHHS girls' lacrosse team dropped a 13-10 decision against Lincoln School April 23 at Faxon Farm just over the state border in Rehoboth, Mass.

Heading into the contest, the Huskies had lost their five previous outings by an average of nearly nine goals per. Lincoln School just joined the D-II ranks from D-I this spring.

Lola Silva scored three of her four her goals in the second half as Mt. Hope attempted to rally from an 8-6 deficit to the Lynx at the break. Adriana Botelho had a hat-trick. Silva is the team's leading goal scorer, Botelho tops in total points (goals and assists).

Catherine Frawley added a pair of goals and Grace Zamil one. Miley Boucher had two assists. Goalie Nadia Albritton made seven saves, including a few at key times during the contest to keep the Huskies within range. Her best stop might actually have come on a Lincoln penalty shot with just 1 second remaining in the first half.

Mt. Hope spotted the Lynx the first two tallies, but scored the next three to lead briefly. Botelho got the locals on the board, then Frawley scored her two in quick succession.

Lincoln tied the game at the end of the first quarter. The teams then traded the lead for a bit in the second. Silva put the locals up 4-3 early in the period off the second helper from Boucher. Botelho later put the Huskies on top, 6-5, for what proved the final time before the hosts scored the next three goals.

The Lynx potted the first two tallies of the second half to up their edge to a day-best, 10-6. Silva then scored two of her three goals in succession to trim the locals' deficit to 11-9 heading into the final quarter, but they would get no closer.

Golf
The Mt. Hope golf squad started its 2025 Eastern Division regular season with a pair of splits, including in its opener on a brisk, overcast afternoon with a split against host Barrington with Rogers Monday, April 21, at Rhode Island Country Club.

The Eagles carded a 158 team total over their home layout to sweep the match. The Huskies split after carding a 174 with a rebuilding group of Vikings shooting 281.

Barrington's Claire McTaggart and Rocco Dimatteo shared medalist honors, each finishing with 1-over, 37 scores over RICC's front nine.

Quinn Frawley was the low local at 5-over, 41. Ben Peters carded a 42, Luke Domina a 45 and Jackson Howland the fourth counting score of 46.

At Green Valley CC in Portsmouth, April 23, the host Patriots were low with a 169 total over the par 35 front side. The Huskies finished with a 181. Bay View carded a 257.

Peters paced Mt. Hope with a plus-5, 40. Lucas Andreozzi shot 46, Domina 47 and Howland 48.
