Hugh Cole School Principal Cindy Giroux has resigned her position, and will work her last day Friday.
Ms. Giroux, a Bristol resident who was hired by the Bristol Warren Regional School District in the Spring of 2017, came here from Cumberland, where she oversaw her previous elementary school for five years.
At Hugh Cole, Ms. Giroux guided the 650-student elementary school during one of its most volatile periods. For much of her tenure there has been an ongoing discussion among parents, teachers and school administrators on how to improve safety, morale and discipline at the school, as well as the nearby Kickemuit Middle School.
School committee Chairwoman Erin Schofield said Tuesday that a team of parents, teachers and others is already in place to interview candidates for the post. She hopes a suitable replacement will be found for the start of the 2019-20 school year.
“We wish Mrs. Giroux well in all her future endeavors," Ms. Schofield said. “The district is committed to finding the right person.”
Ms. Giroux could not be reached for comment this week.
