The Warren Fire Department held its 123rd consecutive memorial recognition ceremonies, Sunday, June 8, at locations around town.

The day began with a mass at St. Mary of the Bay Church then with  a parade of all department WFD personnel and apparatus, with the traditional performance of the Mt. Hope High School Marching Band.

Events concluded at the Town Common where the memorial ceremony for deceased members from the past year — Engine 5's and Rescue David Jarvais and Engine 5's Edwin McClure Jr. — were recognized. Town Council President Joseph DePasquale delivered remarks on behalf of residents.

"We were fortunate to have great weather, which made for a perfect day for the parade and ceremony at the common," WFD Chief James Sousa said of the blue skies and warm temperatures Sunday. "Council President DePasquale spoke about the commitment and dedication of the town’s volunteers and expressed his gratitude and appreciation. It’s always a somber day as we memorialize those who have passed from the previous year."

In addition, the department announced the recipients of its annual scholarships awarded to three high school seniors who are either children or grandchildren of its members. This year's awardees were Ivy Misiurski, who went to Barrington High, Matthew MacDougall, who attended Mt. Hope, and Brianna Deschenes, who went to St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket.
