The accolades are in for the Mt. Hope High School basketball teams with the completion of the 2024-25, including the Division III champion boys' squad received a pair of spots on the league's top tier list of honorees.

Senior guard Lucas Andreozzi was chosen as second team All-Conference by the D-III coaches while junior forward Maleaq Roderick was selected for the third team.

Andreozzi and Roderick were also selected for the next level D-III first team All-Division while junior forward Jack Thompson and junior guard Matt MacDougall were tabbed second-team All-Division.

Roderick, who dealt with a couple of bouts of injury this past winter, still led the locals in points per game, averaging 13.3 an outing. Andreozzi was second at 11.8 while Thompson was third at 11.2.

Thompson grabbed a team-best 9.7 rebounds per game, Roderick 6.7 and Andreozzi 3.8.

Andreozzi paced the Huskies in the third major category, dishing out 3.2 assists per night. Roderick averaged 2.8 dimes and senior Ethan Santerre 1.6.

More boys' notes

Mt. Hope, which finished first in D-III under the new Rhode Island Interscholastic League power ratings system for regular season play, captured the program's fifth league title with its 73-72 victory over Times2 Academy.

Of note, Thompson's consistency throughout the Huskies run to the championship was rewarded by observers of the tournament.  After averaging 24 points in the Mt. Hope's three playoff games, Thompson was chosen as the D-III playoff Most Valuable Player.

The locals, who eventually saw their postseason run come to an end with a loss to eventual champion and also was the D-I tourney winner La Salle in the first round of the Open State Tournament, finished their slate with an 18-7 overall record.

"I'm very happy with the season's success," MHHS head coach Jeff Grika said. "The team got better and better each week. We wouldn’t be as successful if it weren’t for my coaching staff (Timothy Thorpe, Michael Delmage, Matthew Caradimos and Tom Fullen). They all put countless hours on film, practice, pregame prep, etc. Quoting one of my previous players. 'Next season starts now. Our kids are very happy and are ready for next year."

Girls' notes

The Mt. Hope girls, meanwhile, had a pair of players earn top-tier selections on the Division II All-Conference squads as both senior forward Emily Moran and junior guard Lilly DaSilveira were tabbed for the third team.

Moran, who led the Huskies in both points per game (15) and rebounds (10.8), was also an All-D-II first team selection. She's headed to Wheaton College in Norton, Mass., to continue her hoops career next winter.

DaSilveira, second on the team in points per (13.1) and boards (9.1), was tapped for the All-D-II second team. Junior Maddy Butterworth, who was tops per night on the team dishing out three assists, was chosen for the third team.

Freshman Catherine Frawley was third on the team in scoring at 4.5 ppg, junior guard Hailey Ferreira was third in rebounding at 6.2 per. She was also second in assists at 2.6 per while Frawley was third at 1.7.

"Emily and Lilly both had outstanding seasons with over 300 points and 200 rebounds each. Maddy, Hailey, and Catherine all contributed in many stats especially assists, steals, and points. It was really a team effort this year and I’m proud of how they played especially against the top four teams," said MHHS head coach Katie Kline. "As coaches we really emphasized to the team that we could hang with anyone, and they really went out there each game ready to prove that. This season left the girls hungry for more, so I’m excited for the future of this program. Emily will definitely leave a huge hole to fill next year."

In addition, Ferreira, Adriana Botelho and Sofia Haberman earned All-Academic honors.

Mt. Hope's 2024-25 campaign came to a close with a quarterfinal loss to Tiverton in the D-II players after the locals had defeated Johnston in the preliminary round. The Huskies finished with a 13-11 mark in total.

"Overall, I’m happy with the improvements we made since last season. We battled some ailments this year, but our reserves were always ready to step up and fill in the needed positions," Kline added. "Sofia, Adriana, Aubrey Cummings and Lilly Redman were all so important to this team and ready to go when our starters were in foul trouble or unable to play."
