Blount Boats has won a $75,000 state grant to help it expand its Water Street operation and potentially double its workforce from 50 to 100 employees.
According to Rhode Island Commerce Secretary Stefan Pryor, the state Site Readiness Grant will help Blount support master planning for the development of six additional acres along the Warren River. Once complete, the expanded boat-building facility will have increased capacity and will be able to service crew transfer vessels for offshore wind farms.
Blount was one of 11 entities to receive grants in this, the first round of awards totaling $800,000. In all, the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation received 22 applications requesting a total $4.4 million in grants. Under the program, RI Commerce works with municipalities, companies and developers to further development and improve the municipal development process.
