New store planned for former Warren Housing Authority building on Metacom Avenue

Dollar General, a nationwide chain of economy stores, has plans to open a new location at 470 Metacom Ave., in the former Warren Housing Authority building at 470 Metacom Ave.

The Housing Authority sold the property for $725,000 to MCG Warren LLC last month, Warren Housing Authority Executive Director Michael Abbruzzi said. He could not confirm the new owner’s plans, but Warren Town Planner Bob Rulli said Monday that it is Dollar General.

The Housing Authority paid $856,000 for the property in 2008 but it had sat vacant for much of that time, apart from a short period during which it was used as a temporary office for WaterRower.

MCG plans to do major renovations on the property, and filed a $250,000 building permit with the Town of Warren several weeks ago.
