The Mt. Hope High indoor track and field squads competed in their respective 2025 Class B Championships Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Providence Career and Tech Academy Fieldhouse.

Junior standout Jessica Deal recorded the day's lone win for the locals with her time of 10 minutes, 59.29 seconds in the girls' 3,000 meters. Barrington junior Mia He was a distant second in 12:12.11.

As for the rest of the female Huskies, Thea Jackson and Lola Silva specifically, they have the unenviable task of competing against one of the best athletes in the state, if not the nation, in their main events.

West Warwick junior Lisa Raye, one of the top-rated sprinters and jumpers nationally, claimed the 55 meter dash in 6.82, the 55 hurdles in 8.1 and the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, 2 inches among her victories Saturday.

Jackson was third in the dash at 7.26 and in the hurdles at 9.11. Silva was runner-up in the hurdles with a personal record of 9 flat. Jackson was runner-up in the long jump at 18'9.75 with Silva third at 18'8.25. Each broke the existing school record they had previously set earlier in the winter.

Also scoring for the girls was their 4x400 relay team of Silva, Sarah Bissonnette, Kendra Ascoli and Jasmine Kenney ran a time of 4:46.06.

Barrington was the Class B girls' team titleist with 122. Classical was a close second with 115 while Raye led West Warwick to third with 86. Chariho was fourth with 58 points followed by Mt. Hope in fifth with 50.

The boys scored in all three relays led by a second-place result in the 4x8 as Jackson Cicchinelli, Tyler Scarborough, Andy Charest and Gavin Stegall clocked a 9:12.54. Barrington won the race in 8:26.42.

The 4x2 team of Chris Moniz, Jackson Lopes, Alex Watkinson and Ryan Castillo clocked a 1:43.71 and the 4x4 quartet of Moniz, Scarborough, Charest and Stegall ran a 3:55.27 to both place sixth.

Barrington won the boys' Class B title with an overwhelming 259 points followed by Classical in second with 75 and Lincoln High in third with 50. The Huskies finished eighth with 18 points.

Of note as well, the youngest of the Huskies vied in their respective Freshmen State Championships Monday and Tuesday nights, Feb. 3 and 4, at the PCTA Fieldhouse.

For the boys, Wyatt Hancock and Jacob Lopes qualified to compete in the Junior Varsity States next week with their performances at the frosh meet. To advance, the ninth graders needed to finish in the top eight in their events, the scoring places in each.

Hancock was fourth in the shotput with a toss of 32'11.5." Faizer Afrifa of Classical won the shot with a 37'8.5." Lopes clocked a 11:40.44 in the 3,000 meters to place eighth. Shepherd Butler won the race in 9:52.8, helping his Hendricken side with the team trophy with 110 points, 10 better than the runners-up from North Kingstown. LaSalle was third with 71. The Huskies shared 17th with the seven points Hancock and Lopes earned.

For the girls, the Huskies didn't score in their meet, but several individuals improved their previous bests in their events. Ava Cabral PR'd in all four of the events she participated in, including shot put and the 300. Chloe Questel won her heat the 600, while taking nine seconds off her previous best. Also in the 300, Riley Hoffman took three seconds off her top time.
