Barrington walks-off locals in bottom of the sixth

The Bristol Warren entry into the District 2 Little League 11-and-under Baseball All Star tournament suffered a 7-6, walk-off loss to host Barrington Sunday night, June 29, at Sherwood Field. The locals led for most of the way until Barrington tied the game late, then won it in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Bristol Warren scored twice in the top of the first inning on consecutive run-scoring hits by Zach Bento and David Wilcox. Owen Brinza, who walked, and Bento accounted for the runs. Barrington got one back in the bottom of the inning, but two nice defensive plays by shortstop Lorenzo Ring and second baseman Andrew Creighton helped limit the damage.

In the top of the second the locals added two more tallies. Ring singled and later scored as did Jesse Cisneros on a double-steal attempt and a Barrington error.

Bristol Warren went up 5-1 in the third when Zach bento singled, then scored on a Carter Beaulieu base hit. Barrington got three back in the home half of the inning.

The locals' last run came in the top of the fourth and with two out. Landon Vermilyea reached on an error and came around on a Hunter Simas triple.

Barrington later scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to trail 6-5 and eventually scored a pair in the bottom of the sixth to cap off its rally for the victory.

The loss was the first for Bristol Warren in the double elimination tournament. The locals next play against Rumford Wednesday night, July 2, at a site and time to be determined.

Bristol Warren won its first two games of the event, 8-6 over Portsmouth and 10-0 over East Providence Central.
