Both residents and voters should definitely pay attention to the rhetoric appearing in letters to the editor on page seven of the Sakonnet Times' Sept. 26. Issue.
It's very difficult to see words written about people you know that are absolute falsehoods, it’s also hurtful.
In my earlier years I raised three children who grew up to be wonderful adults, my husband raised two very respectful young men who are very successful, it was not an accident it was hard work and time consuming, it was expensive. I know how hard it is to raise children and what should and should not be in their lives. I did not farm out that responsibility to a school system. I was involved with PTA meetings and school board decisions. I and my husband still try to stay involved by going to meetings in Little Compton, not because we are extremist but because we have experience and we are concerned.
To see terrible words written about good hard-working people that are doing volunteer work spending days and nights for the good of the town is really shameful. Also shameful is the fact that some of the people spouting this rhetoric have titles after their name which signifies that they should be educated.
I've searched most of the Republican printings, all of the platform printings, all of the articles put out online, all of the signage, all of the videos, and I can’t find an affiliation with M4L, I guess I know why, there is none, there never was one.
It’s become very stylish to label people extremist, usually it only happens when people can hide behind their computer or online, never in person. I've used common sense as a guide my whole life, respecting everyone, trying to be considerate of others and their feelings, that’s why those letters really bothered me.
It’s time for people to wake up and check where our school really stands statewide, what our school spends per student, how many students are in our classes. Then maybe our residents would know why some people on the school board won’t play “go along to get along” It’s time to reign in all costs including that of subsidizing students from other towns to the tune of $20,000 per student, then you would know why the letters appear as a smokescreen with name calling, not the issues.
Wake up Little Compton, they are spending “other people’s money,” They are spendings YOURS.
