Large mutual aid turnout for Tiverton fire

Fire fighter taken to hospital for evaluation on unseasonably warm day

Firefighters from Westport, Tiverton, Middletown, Bristol, Fall River, Somerset and the Newport Naval Base responded to a four-alarm blaze at 60 Beth Road in Tiverton Tuesday afternoon.

The fire was called in by one of the home's two inhabitants, who reported smoke in the garage. Fire fighters who responded found the fire spreading from the garage into the front of the house.

Tiverton Fire Chief William Bailey told reporters that it took several hours to extinguish the fire, and said he was thankful for the large mutual aid turnout. Tuesday was unseasonably warm and depleted responders, he said.

Though nobody in the house was injured, authorities reported that a Fall River fire fighter was taken to the hospital for evaluation. There was no word on his status.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. According to Tiverton tax records, the 22-year-old raised ranch is owned by Sandra A. and Martin Rodgers.
