Tiverton Police: Farm fire, Geocaching, vengeful ex

Monday, Jan. 11

Police were called to Bulgarmarsh Road at 8:32 am for a “young boy walking in the roadway … followed by an SUV.”

A Crandall Road resident told police that an unemployment claim had been filed in his name. A Kearns Avenue resident called later in the day with a similar complaint.

A Doris Road resident called at 3:06 pm to report that someone is measuring her yard and property.

Tuesday, Jan. 12

At 12:54 am, a 911 caller told police that neighbors on Meadow View Lane neighbors have been screaming for about an hour. The noise had stopped when police arrived.

Police investigated screaming said to be coming from an address on Persimmon Drive at 1:19 am.

Amanda C. Cline, 29, of 260 Souza Road, Tiverton, was cited for driving with a suspended license, second offense, at 10:45 pm on Main Road.

A car struck a deer on Main Road at Nanaquaket Road at 5:54 am. The deer was killed.

A car “all over the road” was reported on Main Road at 10:47 am.

A 11:27 am caller reported a red BMW with Illinois plates being driven aggressively on Route 24 south.

Motorcycle weaving through traffic was reported at 2:51 pm on Stafford Road.

A 3:11 pm caller notified police of a man (whose car has New York plates) hunting deer from a tree in the area of Seapowet Avenue. DEM responded that hunting is allowed in that area.

An officer reported being flagged down by a juvenile on Borden Road at 5:10 pm. The boy was given a ride to Pocasset School.

A Main Road resident called at 7:12 pm to complain that people in an upstairs apartment are making banging noises; “kids running around.”

Police were called to Route 24 at 9:06 pm for a group of five or six cars traveling at a high rate of speed.

Wednesday, Jan. 13

At 4 am, a Hancock Street caller reported that a man he does not know is in his house claiming that three people are chasing him. The man was transported to St. Anne’s Hospital.

A UPS driver called police at  2:49 pm to report that he had found a dog loose on Eight Rod Way. The dog was returned to its owners.

Thursday, Jan. 14

At 7:38 am a caller reported that a motorist at the Fish Road park and ride was throwing trash out the car window. Police located the driver who then removed the trash.

At 9:36 am, a 911 caller at Seapowet Beach reported that flames appeared to be coming from the roof of nearby farmhouse. Police and firefighters found that flames were actually from “burning brush.” The fire was controlled and burned itself out. The resident was told to get a burning permit next time.

A Fairfield Avenue resident called at 10:37 am to tell police that neighbors are concerned about a bag left near the mailboxes. Police and checked and found that the bag contained groceries.

A Stafford Road caller notified police that a woman had left something outside his business several days ago and that today a man had come to pick it up. “Further investigation concluded that the items located inside a medicine container were to an outdoor activity, Geocaching.

A barking dog complaint was received from High Hill Road at 12:52 pm.

At 1:144 pm, police received a call about “tenant issues.” Caller wanted to speak only to someone with rank of lieutenant or higher.

James Mataronas IV, 46, of 287 State Ave., Tiverton, was arrested as a fugitive from justice at 5:10 pm at that address.

At 5:39 pm, a Dadson Mobile Home Park resident called to report that he had received an unknown package. 

Friday, Jan.15

Police checked on a suspicious vehicle said to be at the Fish Road park and ride. “Parties are homeless and will remain here for the night,” the officer reported.

At 4:26 am, police received a 911 call from a Souza Road resident who said he is being harassed by his girlfriend’s ex who “does burnouts in front of his house every night.” He added that he has video footage.

Zachary A. Sanft, 19, of 27 Grinnell Ave., Tiverton, was arrested on a charge of reckless driving at 2:25 pm on Stafford Road. Police had gone there for a reported accident after which the “driver took off running.”

A Bourne Avenue resident came to the station to report that a PlayStation5 that he purchased on Facebook is listed by Sony as being stolen.

Scott J. Sanford, 24, of 163 Merritt Ave., Tiverton, was arrested on a charge of possession of narcotics at 9:24 pm at Bourne Mill Apartments, 1 Mill Street.

Jessica M. Campione, 35, of Mattapoisett, Mass., was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence, blood alcohol concentration unknown, at 10:45 pm near the Tiverton Casino.

Saturday, Jan. 16

Police and state DOT went to the area of 2950 Main Road for a tree blocking the roadway at 8:50 am.

Police and firefighters were called to Manchester Farm, 55 Cory’s Lane, at 1:31 am for a structure fire. First to arrive found a camper trailer fully engulfed in flames. Little Compton assisted by sending a tanker truck. The blaze was reported knocked down by 1:45 am; crews left the scene by 2:34 am.

Tyler Demoranville, 25, of New Bedford, was arrested on charges of narcotics possession, weapons possession (other than firearms), assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest, at 10:47 pm at a Clement Street address.
