A Tiverton man whose German Shephard was shot and killed by police on New Year's Eve was charged last Tuesday with threatening a public official, nearly three weeks after the shooting incident.

Alan J. Anderson, 57, of 100 Church St., was arrested on a warrant and charged with threatening a public official and disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors.

The events that police said led to the charges occurred at about 3:30 a.m. New Year's Eve, when officers responded to Tiverton Liquors on Main Road for a report of a suspicious vehicle. When they arrived, Anderson, the caller, met them. He had a German Shepherd with him, police said.

When Officer Nicholas Jamrog attempted to speak with Anderson, Capt. Michael Miguel said Monday, "the dog got aggressive, broke free and lunged toward the officer, tried to bite him, and knocked him to ground."

Officer Jamrog drew his weapon and shot the dog, killing it. Officers brought the dog's remains to Anderson's home that morning, and while there police said he made multiple threats to kill the officer. Those threats continued into the New Year, police said.
