Softball Minors beat Middletown 14-11 to take the District 2 title
The Tiverton Majors All-Stars beat Cumberland 5-1 in the RI Softball State Tournament hosted by Portsmouth at Davidson Field on Monday night. Tiverton, playing out of the loser's bracket, moves on to play winner's bracket champ, Cranston Western on Tuesday in the state championship. Tiverton will have to win twice to upset Cranston, who is undefeated in the tournament.
Pitching ace, Lexi Fredricks dominated Cumberland, striking out 11, while yielding 4 hits, 1 walk and 1 run in 6 innings.
Tiverton scored 4 runs in the fourth inning to break open a 0-0 tie. Olivia Megna bashed a double, scoring 2 runs. Sofie Gill, Fredricks, Mia Cabral, Abby Coutu, Gabi Piker, Autumn Mottram and Caitlynn St. Laurent all notched a hit for Tiverton.
The Softball Minors team beat Middletown 14-11 to take the District 2 title on Thursday.
At the state tournament the team fell to Cranston Western 17-1 in their first game on Monday night.
