Tiverton ace Kylie Hill struck out 13 as the Tiverton girls softball Majors All Stars beat Middletown 10-1 to win the District 2 Championship on Wednesday night. The girls will represent the district in the state championship tournament on July 7, at Brayton Park in Cranston.
Hill was tremendous, pitching in a tight 2-1 game until Tiverton broke it open in the fifth inning. She scattered 5 hits and 3 walks, while allowing just 1 run in 6 innings.
“I felt pretty good out there,” Hill said. “I was relying on my team a lot of the time. They backed me up and yeah.”
“Kylie works really hard, said her dad and head coach Frank Hill, “I’m really proud of her, she really competes. She loves getting the ball and being on that pitcher's mound.”
Tiverton breaks game open in the fifth
The Tiverton offense smashed 12 hits and 10 runs. They scored a run in each of the first two innings before breaking the game open, scoring 8 runs, in the fifth inning.
Lead off hitter Sofie Gill and five hitter Autumn Mottram each belted a pair of hits during the win. Hill, Gabi Piker, Ava Vandal, Lola Hemling, Morgan Napolitano, Caitlyn St. Laurent, Violet Carvalho and Violet Michaud also tallied a hit and Gill (2), Hill, Piker, Vandal, Mottram (2), Hemling, Isabel Sousa, Napolitano, St. Laurent, Carvalho and Michaud each scored runs.
“it was a very close game all the way through to the last inning,” Coach Hill said. “We finally were able to put some hits together in the fifth and score some runs.”
