Tigers topple Warriors 8-0, look to playoffs

Juleighani Soto and Tori Murray each scored two goals as the Tiverton girls soccer team toppled Central Falls 8-0 in a Division 4 home game on Thursday night. Leah Committo, Sofia Borges, Jenna Del Deo and Emma Committo also scored during the victory. Goalkeeper Addie Messenger made 5 saves to preserve the shutout, the Tiger’s seventh of the season. Tiverton, who began the season in last place with a record of 1-3 in early September, has rattled off 10 straight to lead their division with a record of 11-3.
“We played teams in upper divisions early,” said head coach Jim Gauch. “That helped us see what needed to be work on. After that, the girls have started moving and playing together as a team. So we prepare for each game and take one game at a time.”
The Tigers have scored 83 goals during the winning streak and have bludgeoned their opponents. Senior striker Juleighani Soto leads the team with 23 goals and 6 assists. Freshman forward Leah Committo is second with 20 goals and 5 assists and sophomore forward Tori Murray is third scoring 17 goals 13 assists.
Senior captains Sofia Borges, a right midfielder, Jenna Del Deo, a center midfielder and Elyse Meyers, left defense and back up goalkeeper, have provided strong leadership for the Tigers, who sport just 15 players on the team.
Goalkeeper Addaline Messanger and the Tigers defense have shut down opposing teams, limiting them to just 5 goals during the winning streak and 20 goals for the season.
The first place Tigers have just two games left before playoffs begin next week.
“The girls are watching the RIIL page,” said Coach Gauch. “Trying to figure out where and who they will play.”
Next up: Tiverton travels to the Lincoln School on Thursday afternoon.
