A smoky house fire claimed the lives of six pets Monday morning at 324 Cottrell Road in Tiverton.
Firefighters from several communities arrived at 10:15 am to find “light smoke” coming from the house.
Fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, the Tiverton Fire Department said. Although the blaze was contained to one room, the rest of the house sustained smoke and water damage and is uninhabitable for now.
Mutual aid responded to the fire scene from Fall River and Portsmouth while Little Compton, Westport, and Middletown covered the stations.
Other than the pets, the residents were not home at the time and no injuries were reported. . The fire remains under investigation.
