Sakonnet Bridge bike lane closures announced

PORTSMOUTH/TIVERTON — The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) has issued a travel advisory for the Sakonnet River Bridge's bike lane for several dates in August.

RITBA will conduct biennial bridge inspections from Tuesday, Aug. 11, through Friday, Aug. 14, and Monday, Aug. 17 through Friday, Aug. 21, which will require the closure of the bike lane on the bridge between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.

To stay up to date and receive the latest on construction activity and real-time traffic, visit RITBA’s site at RITBA.org. 

The site provides the latest information concerning lane closures, construction activities, and traffic delays for the Sakonnet River, Newport Pell, Jamestown Verrazzano, and Mount Hope bridges, in addition to the Route 138 Connector.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
