Ronald Allen Snell, born January 19, 1943, passed away on January 23, 2021, in Warren, RI, after a long illness, at the age of 78.  He was the son of the late former police chief Arthur C. Snell and the late Edith M. (Chase) Snell.

Born in Fall River, he had lived in the Tiverton/Little Compton area for most of his life.

Ron graduated from J.F. Wilbur School, Little Compton.  Being a man of many talents, through the years he worked as an auto mechanic, chef, welder and carpenter.  He served for 5 1/2 years in the U.S. Army, doing two tours in Vietnam.  After being discharged from the Army, he served as a member of the Rhode Island National Guard for several years.  His service greatly influenced his life.

Ron is survived by four siblings, Richard Snell and his Elizabeth of Ohio, Bradley Snell, Judith West and husband Samuel, and Laura Walker of Little Compton.  He also leaves 14 nieces and nephews, 13 great nieces and nephews and nine great great nieces and nephews that he cared about deeply, as well as many, many friends.

A private service under the direction of the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport, will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully asks that donations be sent to a veteran's organization of your choice.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
