Little Compton Police: Rescuers help pull blue shark off the rocks

Rescuers responded to help a blue shark caught in the rocks off the Little Compton shore, according to Little Compton police reports from Aug. 3 to 8. See the police log below.

Monday, Aug. 3

At 7:15 am, a motorist stopped at the police station to turn in a surfboard found on the south end of Long Highway.

A stranded dolphin was discovered on the beach at the end of Town Way at 11:53 am. State Department of Environmental Management officers arrived at 12:45 am. No word on the fate of the dolphin.

A Little Compton motorist who was stopped on Long Highway at 2:48 pm was found to have a suspended license. The vehicle was towed.

Tuesday, Aug. 4

After a 2:15 pm traffic stop on Bluff Head Avenue, a Brockton, Mass., driver was cited for driving with a suspended license.

At 11:07 pm, police and rescue went to Crandall Road after a woman called to report that a vehicle had struck her house. The driver received medical treatment after being found passed out in the vehicle and was transported to St. Anne's Hospital in Fall River. Police also discovered damage to mailboxes at two nearby Crandall Road locations and to a garage at another.

Saturday, Aug. 8

Police were called to the area of 10-12 Ocean Drive at 9:53 am for a blue shark washed up near South Shore Beach. DEM dispatched an officer to the scene. The shark was first pulled into shallow water, after which a rescue swimmer and a boat subsequently managed to pull the shark to deeper water. It is believed to have survived.
