Letter: Trump support not as baffling as writer believes

To the editor:

The most popular book in the world is filled with accounts of how our Creator uses imperfect people to accomplish His perfect plan. That’s why I have to thank Shorelines for publishing the letter titled “Conservative support for Trump is baffling” (July 30, 2020). Christopher Goulart’s rhetoric prompted me to re-read my copy of the Declaration of Independence. The founders of America, like me, served a higher authority than government. So I ask Mr. Goulart and Shorelines readers: Where do your unalienable rights come from?

I was also inspired to re-read pages of a Westport High School textbook I copied in the mid-1990s that state: “Holders of the ecological world view believe that an international organization such as the United Nations should be given the authority to manage and distribute the world’s resources. This world view finds support from various forms of socialism.” (Living World History, 6th Edition, pp.788-789)

President Trump, like me, is neither a globalist nor a socialist. So I hope the three sources referenced in this letter help clarify why support for our president, and our sovereign, independent nation, should not be baffling.
