Letter: Tiverton voters, remember, then choose wisely

To the editor:

It’s now time to elect our Tiverton town officials. Let’s hope we’re more successful than the last general election when we foolishly elected a majority council of TTA members. They quickly proved themselves completely incapable of governing the town. The TTA sold us a “bill-of-goods” prior to that election and now expects us to believe them again this year.

When facing recall they stated the following: “So, we wanted to reach out to you to assure you that we are working hard to fulfill our campaign promises, including reduced taxes, efficient and transparent government, and the preservation of your rights as a taxpayer, a voter, and a citizen.”

Talk’s cheap, what they did was the following. Their typical TTA “my-way-or-no-way” approach to governing.

• President Coulter, in their first meeting stated we didn’t have a solicitor. The TTA then appointed Katz’s “he’s not  my friend” friend solicitor. That was obviously decided before they were sworn-in as councilors. “Honest, transparent,”  you tell me.

Filled a library trustee position with a totally unqualified political buddy. “Above-board,” you tell me.

TTC councilors tried everything to get the alternate budget off the ballot at FTR. In prior FTRs they frequently

presented alternative budgets. “Preserving your rights,” you tell me.

Remember Katz’s Second Amendment grandstanding with full support of Coulter? It took two meetings and a

heavy-hand to past that one. “Efficient,” a total waste of time and money.

Hired an unqualified fire chief.

TTA’s promise of “transparent, above-board, honest, open government” ended day one and continued until they were finally overwhelmingly recalled.

Let’s look at some TTA candidates and what they have done:

Rob Coulter; first Tiverton councilor ever recalled; catered to V.P.’s every wish and demand; often looked like he reported to the V.P. Usually ignored any opposing opinions/input from non-TTA councilors or the general public; talked a good game. End of story.

Donna Cook; well named as she likes to stir the pot; best known for frequent verbal attacks on others but is “highly offended” if anyone dared to fight back; called opposition to TTA plan at the FTR “part of a mob.” Since the recall her main focus seems to be to oppose most council decisions, mainly to disrupt proceedings in general.

Nancy Dreggs; like Cook, opposes most council decisions. She once dared to vote in opposition to the TTA bigwigs on Katz’s Second Amendment foolishness, but quickly changed her vote after Coulter called a recess and spoke with her. Her vote then changed to agree with the party rulers.

Joe Souza; (prior councillor) loved to hear himself talk, but normally said nothing.

Notably missing; Justin Katz. Don’t be fooled! Most people feel if the TTA regains council control, they’ll report to the unofficial “chairman-of-the-board,” the once recalled Mr. Justin Katz.

Fellow voters, remember the old saying, “fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.”

Remember, then choose wisely!
