Editor’s note: This letter was sent to members of the Little Compton Town Council, which has directed town solicitor Anthony DeSisto to research the proposed ordinance introduced by the Rhode Island ACLU.
I write today as a Little Compton resident, a mother, and a teacher. I urge you all to support in whatever way you can the adoption of the ACLU’s municipal immigration protection ordinance. In this time of unprecedented federal overreach, communities must band together to support and protect our neighbors. I’ve been buoyed in recent months to see the ways in which our local community organizations and committees have supported important initiatives. Please place the support of this ordinance at the top of your agenda.
