Letter: No excuse not to clear snow off your car

So here we are, recovering from the storm which will likely be among the top five in Rhode Island's

history. But we will also be dealing with one issue that prevails after every snow event, both large and small — drivers refusing to remove snow from their cars!

Already today I've watched them going up my street with the barest minimum portion of the windshield cleared and none of the other windows or the rearview mirrors cleaned. The roof and hood with a foot of snow on them. Maybe the extra weight gives better traction? It's really great on the highway when you get to follow the vehicular version of Haley's Comet or get to dodge large chunks of snow and ice flying off the roof of one of these, especially trucks and SUV's. I had one person inform me that it was "too hard" to remove the snow and that it will  soon blow off anyway. Good plan.

Many years ago, in my town, there were police officers posted at the on and off ramps to route 24. They stopped drivers who were too lazy to clear off the snow and made them do so. Public safety matters folks, and it's not too much to ask you to think about the other drivers on the roads. Please clean your vehicle!
