Letter: Get involved in Saturday’s peaceful protest and rally

To the editor:

This Saturday, April 5, there will be a nationwide peaceful protest and rally against the Trump regime and Elon Musk. The 50501 Movement, HandsOff, and The Women’s March are collaborating efforts to resist the unconstitutional actions, orders, and executive overreach of Donald Trump and Elon Musk.

There will be 50 protests in 50 states as one movement. This has been a movement broadly promoted on social media. I am writing this to those who do not use social media. The news and television media outlets are not reporting on these protests.

If you are frustrated, upset, disgusted and horrified by the actions of the Trump regime you have the opportunity to do something! There will be peaceful protests across Rhode Island in tandem with the rest of the country and the world. I urge you to come out and voice your opposition to Trump, Maga and the unelected oligarch Elon Musk. For more information, please go to www.fiftyfifty.one and www.handsoff2025.com.

Protests are being held in Providence and the East Bay at the following places and times on Saturday, April 5:

• Providence: Noon to 1:30 p.m. with a HandsOff rally and march to Kennedy Plaza starting at Hope High School, 324 Hope St. A 50501 march will start on the mall side of the R.I. State House at the same time and also march to Kennedy Plaza. The two movements will join together at Kennedy Plaza to protest/rally as one. Arrive early, carpool, use public transit, and/or use mall parking garage.

• Portsmouth: Noon to 2 p.m. at 2628 East Main Road (area in front of Clements’ Marketplace)

• Tiverton: Noon to 1 p.m. at 600 Main Road

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
